We have an exciting opportunity for you to join the University of Oxford as an Apprentice Laboratory Technician in the Nuffield Department of Women’s & Reproductive Health.
This is a varied role that will give you the opportunity to experience a range of technical areas by working alongside staff and postgraduate students where you will contribute to the daily management tasks in running our laboratories at the John Radcliffe Hospital. Your work will range from general laboratory housekeeping, to understanding the management of scientific equipment, Health & Safety within a scientific workplace and purchasing equipment and supplies.
As your skills develop, you will also have the opportunity to take an active role in the governance of the department’s tissue collection. In addition, you will have access to a number of in-house training courses run by the University’s training provider, Oxford Learning Institute, Health & Safety Office, and Oxford University Computer Services for IT skills.
About the apprenticeship
As part of this role, you will undertake an Apprenticeship with CSR Scientific Training, where you will complete a Level 3 Laboratory Technician Standard and depending on your previous academic attainment, you will work towards either a Level 3 BTEC in Applied Science or a level 4 HNC in Applied Biology qualification.
For this apprenticeship, you will work at the Nuffield Department of Women’s & Reproductive Health on Level 3, Women’s Centre, John Radcliffe Hospital, Headington, Oxford. As part of your apprenticeship, you will be required to attend weekly online lectures as well as in-person practical sessions and observations delivered by CSR Scientific Training.
In total, it will take 2 years to complete all elements of the apprenticeship, with support from the Department, University, and College throughout.

About you
You will be passionate about starting your career in Laboratory Technician management and excited about the opportunity of becoming an apprentice at the University of Oxford. You may be starting your career or you may be looking for a career change.
To complete the Level 3 apprenticeship you will need to evidence passes at 9-4 or A*-C in GCSE Maths, English and Science as well as an A Level in Science. If you did not achieve these grades, do not let that put you off from applying as you can study Functional Skills as part of the apprenticeship giving you the equivalent qualifications needed.
To help check that you have the potential to achieve these, CSR Scientific Training will ask you to complete a short initial assessment during the application process. There are also government residency requirements for Apprenticeship funding which the Training Provider will be able to advise on.
